The ex-Time Lord's fiancee, Georgia Moffett, is five months pregnant and the couple may have a double celebration this year, as they are also planning their wedding.

It is not yet known if David, who was the tenth Doctor in the BBC programme, and Georgia - who is the daughter of Peter Davison, the fifth Doctor Who - will marry before their child is born, though it has previously been speculated they will marry on New Year's Day 2012.

A source told the Daily Mail newspaper: "They are a couple who like to keep themselves to themselves. Friends and family are delighted though."

Another friend of the couple joked: "David is thrilled, though slightly worried having a baby with Georgia will break the space time continuum because of their 'Doctor Who' connections."

David, 39, met Georgia, 26, when she guest starred in an episode of 'Doctor Who' in 2008. Their baby will be his first, and a sibling to Jenny's son Tyler, eight.

David was succeeded as Doctor Who by the long running series' current star Matt Smith.
