No, it’s not about Manchester United, but a group of lively and environmentally-friendly animals who care deeply for the world around them … but, alas, this German-made, neatly constructed animated yarn, does somewhat hammer home its message.

The critics have, unfavourably, compared the animation with what Pixar does but Pixar will always be streets ahead and, anyway, the animals here are cute enough to satisfy the aimed-at younger market.

The story revolves around the building of a dam and resort complex in Africa that threatens the animals.

Young Meercat Billy (Corden) manages to rally the troops – many of them sworn enemies – in a fightback to save their world.

There is nothing wrong with the film, it is well done, funny and charming … a little softer on the preaching would have helped, though.

Star Rating: 3/5
