Bookie slashes odds on Rubberbandits to be Christmas Number 1
A comedy hip-hop act from Limerick is threatening to steal this year’s Number 1 spot in the Irish Christmas singles chart.
Irish bookmaker Paddy Power make The Rubberbandits just 5/4 to pip the ‘X Factor’ winner to the post with their new single ‘Horse Outside’.
The duo, who conceal their identity on stage and in interviews by disguising their faces with plastic bags, are becoming increasingly popular, so much so that their cult following have even set up a Facebook page to encourage people to help get the act to number one.
Followers are being urged not to buy the song until December 19 for it to count in the Christmas charts.
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “It’s a lot easier to get a single to Number 1 in Ireland. An Irish Xmas No.1 needs only a fraction of the amount of sales a UK one does, so the Rubberbandits could just pull off the biggest steal of their lives!”
Meanwhile, the soon-to-be ‘X Factor’ winner is just 4/7 to top the UK charts this Christmas.
