Booted-off acts criticise 'X Factor' judges
'X Factor' judges Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh came in for criticism by the latest acts to be booted off the show.
Musician Storm Lee accused his mentor Walsh of pressurising him into dyeing his hair pink while double act Diva Fever said they did not like Cowellâs choice of song.
Edinburgh-born musician Lee, 37, got the lowest number of viewer votes after his performance of Bruce Springsteenâs 'Born To Run' and was automatically eliminated from the contest.
Groups Belle Amie and Diva Fever polled the next lowest totals of votes and faced a sing-off with their fate decided by the judging panel.
Diva Fever tried to save themselves with a camp performance of Gloria Gaynorâs 'I Will Survive' but their fate was sealed when three of the judges opted to send them home.
Cowell was saved from making a tough decision after Cheryl Cole, Walsh and Dannii Minogue all picked the duo to leave the contest.
The ferocious judge said he took âfull responsibilityâ for the duoâs departure after he made them perform Duck Sauceâs song Barbra Streisand on Saturday nightâs musical heroes-themed show.
Diva Fever admitted today they were worried about the song because they did not think people would be familiar with it but said Cowell told them he had a âvisionâ.
âSometimes you are afraid to speak up because you think they might start thinking youâre a diva,â Joe Al-Smadi told ITVâs Daybreak. âWe did express that we didnât like the song to start off with because itâs really new in the chart at the minute.
âWe thought a lot of people might not know it.
âBut Simon had a vision for it and he said he thought weâd do really well with it.â
Craig Saggers, the other half of the act, added: âItâs not a particularly melodic song.
âWe just got worried about it.â
Asked why he dyed his hair pink, Storm Lee said: âThe truth of it is I feel a little bit set up by my mentor.
âHe was really adamant that I change my look and be a little bit more flamboyant.
âI wasnât going to start off the show by fighting him.â
But the musician said he did his best during his performances and added of his elimination: âI actually strangely feel quite relieved in a way.â
The audience were shocked when wacky Wagner Carrilho was saved by the public vote. Bookies said in the past day, Carrilhoâs odds to win collapsed from 33/1 to just 14/1.
Ladbrokes spokesman David Williams said: âPunters canât get enough of Wagner. The stranger he becomes, the more they love him.â
Last nightâs show opened with the contestants performing Lady Gaga and Beyonceâs 'Telephone'.
Former contestant Diana Vickers and Katy Perry also took to the stage.
Perry, who acted as a temporary judge while Minogue was on maternity leave, told Cowell she was âwaiting for his callâ to ask her to return as a judge.
There are now 12 competitors left in the show.
