Cameron: ‘The Hurt Locker’ should have been 3D

James Cameron thinks ‘The Hurt Locker’ would have been better in 3D.

The ‘Avatar’ director – whose ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow directed the war epic, winning the Academy Award for Best Director earlier this year – admits he thinks the film would have been better if it was shot in 3D.

He said: “I think ‘The Hurt Locker’ would have been better in 3D. Absolutely. It wouldn’t have been hugely better in 3D, but I’m talking a future where you don’t have to put ‘in 3D’ on the movie poster anymore, the same you don’t put ‘in colour’ on posters anymore.”

Discussing his losing out on the Best Director Oscar to Bigelow, Cameron admits he does not “begrudge” her right to the prize.

He told Entertainment Weekly: “It was David and Goliath. Goliath had made more than a couple of billion dollars and ‘The Hurt Locker’ had made about what it cost to shoot, about $15m (€11.7m).

“The Academy always likes to be the great equaliser. But I don’t begrudge her any of that. I couldn’t think of a better outcome for our lives. I got my Oscar. She got her Oscar.”
