Funnyman Corden mocked for acting ambitions

James Corden was mocked at school when he said he’d be an actor.

The ‘Gavin and Stacey’ funnyman was laughed at when he admitted in a careers interview he had ambitions to be on TV, and admits he might have considered a career as a chef if he hadn’t made it in the industry because he was a promising cook at school.

The 31-year-old star said: “I was good at home economics so maybe a chef. I had a careers interview and said ‘I’m going to be an actor’ and she said, ‘No, you’d like to be an actor.’ Ha!”

James, who is set to appear in a guest spot in ‘Doctor Who’ on Saturday, also revealed his favourite stand-up comedian of all time is Richard Pryor.

He explained to the Radio Times magazine: “The best stand-ups don’t have to be funny all the time; they just have to be interesting.”

The star, who plays Smithy in award-winning ‘Gavin and Stacey’, also had high praise for the character Alan Partridge – who he called “genius”, as well as a host of other comedy programmes including ‘The Office’, ‘Porridge’ and ‘Seinfield’.”
