The soap world’s “Oscars” take place tonight, as 'Coronation Street', 'Doctors', 'EastEnders', 'Emmerdale' and 'Hollyoaks' battle it out for gongs.

Scott Maslen of 'EastEnders' will be looking to hang on to his sexiest male crown at the British Soap Awards, while Corrie’s Michelle Keegan is nominated once more for sexiest female.

All five dramas are in the running for best British soap, which saw 'EastEnders' take the crown last year at the glitzy London bash.

Hosted by Phillip Schofield, there are 17 awards in total, voted for by a panel of expert judges or by the public.

The live episode of 'EastEnders', which saw the dramatic climax to the “who killed Archie Mitchell?” storyline, sees Charlie Clements who played Bradley Branning up for best exit. It is also in the running for best single episode.

Meanwhile, Aaron Livesy’s struggle with his sexuality has helped put 'Emmerdale' up for prizes.

In the past year, Livesy (played by Danny Miller) came out as gay, prompting a mixed response from his friends and family.

The moment he came out won the ITV soap a nomination for best single episode.

“Aaron’s gay self-loathing” was also nominated for best storyline, while Miller himself was nominated for best dramatic performance.

'EastEnders' missed out on a nomination for spectacular scene of the year, while none of the Corrie cast was included in the best newcomer category.
