Gere: Cindy and I wanted different things
Richard Gere admits he and Cindy Crawford wanted different things from their marriage.
The ‘Pretty Woman’ actor wed the stunning supermodel in 1991 but split three years later and Richard says their 17-year age gap was to blame because they couldn’t agree on their future.
He said: “I married her because I didn’t want to lose her. But we didn't have the perfect marriage - it wasn't happening as well as either of us wanted.
“Marriage is walking the path in the same direction. I wasn't sure I'd adjust to looking after my own child.”
However, the 60-year-old star says his outlook on life changed when he met now-wife Carey Lowell in 1995.
In 2000, the former Bond Girl gave birth to the couple’s son, Homer, before tying the knot in 2002, and he admits he is dedicated to making their union work.
Richard – who is also stepdad to Carey’s 20-year-old daughter Hannah – said: “You have to let that person know they are special. Start every day fresh.”
Despite being linked to a host of beauties over the years, the ‘Officer and a Gentleman’ actor doesn’t like to dwell on his ladies’ man reputation.
He told the Daily Mail newspaper: “I don't know about that label. I've had an interesting life. I have a lot of beautiful friends.”
