Phillips mooted for 'Strictly' return

Arlene Phillips may replace Alesha Dixon on the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judging panel.

The choreographer was an original judge on the BBC ballroom dancing show, but was replaced on the last series by Alesha after producers decided on a younger look for the programme.

But the former Misteeq singer is said to be planning on quitting the programme after just one series to concentrate on her music career.

Arlene has been fronting a new show, ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, but has been sitting with the other ‘Strictly’ judges - Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood - on the programme’s live tour.

A source told the News Of The World newspaper: “Last year Arlene said she'd never go back. But she's been on the tour with Len, Bruno and Craig, and remembered how much fun they have.

“She's concentrating on her new show, but her position on ‘Strictly’ is never say never. She's made sure she has time in her schedule.”

‘Breathe Slow’ singer Alesha, 31, has already said her future on the show – which returns in autumn – is unclear.

About returning to the judging panel she has said: “I'd like to, but there's talk of me going to America, so I'll take each day as it comes."

Following Alesha's appointment to ‘Strictly’ last year, the BBC were hit by allegations of "ageism" for axing 66-year-old Arlene in favour of the younger, inexperienced star.

A source close to the show said: "We're very keen to keep Alesha, but she is super ambitious and she won't be committing to anything until next year, once she sees what else is on offer. Bosses will be on tenterhooks."
