Poorly written ‘Law Abiding Citizen’ shows little originality

Director: F. Gary Gray

Cast: Gerard Butler, Jamie Foxx, Bruce McGill, Colm Meaney

Kill all the lawyers is the theme of this disappointing revenge drama in which Butler plays the more than somewhat miffed Clyde Shelton whose family were slaughtered by a gang of hoods some 10 years previously and, even worse, allowed to escape the full force of the law by prosecutor Foxx who did a deal.

Now Shelton is back, intent on exacting his own justice on the lawyers he reckons let him down.

We have had such plotlines on countless previous occasions but little that hints at originality has been brought to this version of the retribution genre, and even the usually excellent Butler can’t find the depth to give us a character we can root for in a poorly written film.
