Details of Gately's last night revealed in UK tabloid

A Bulgarian model and student who spent the night with Stephen Gately and his husband following a night out has revealed to a UK Sunday newspaper details of the tragic Boyzone star's last hours.

Georgi Dochev said he met the couple in a Majorcan gay club before heading back to their apartment, where the three men spent the night.

He also told Britain's Sunday Mirror tabloid how the next morning he had been awoken by the apartment's doorbell at around 8am.

Georgi, 25, told of how he is haunted that he didn’t try to wake the pop star, who was asleep on the living room couch with partner Andy Cowles, 32.

He continued: “I got up and looked into the living room and saw Stephen and Andy still lying there and I just thought, 'it's not my house, I can't answer the door'

“I don't know if Stephen was already dead. Of course I think about what might have happened if I had tried to wake them," he was quoted as saying.

Georgi also detailed Andy’s blind panic after they discovered something was wrong with Stephen as they tried to rouse him later in the day.

He said: “Andy touched him and said gently, 'baby, baby'. But there was no reaction. Then he picked him up and we noticed there was a yellowish liquid around his mouth and on the sofa where he had been lying.

“But it was impossible to give him first aid. His body was stiff and his jaw was rigid.”

Georgi had at this point called emergency services and the police soon appeared to examine the body.

Stephen was buried a week later in an emotional ceremony in Dublin.
