Pine set for Ryan role
Chris Pine is in negotiations to follow Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck into the role of Jack Ryan.
The ‘Star Trek’ actor is the latest person lined up to play the CIA analyst character, developed by political thriller writer Tom Clancy.
Ryan has previously appeared in four films, but studio Paramount is said to be keen on re-starting it.
Paramount spokesperson Adam Goodman said: "Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan - with Chris in this role, we've taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise."
Ryan has previously been portrayed by Alec Baldwin in ‘The Hunt for Red October’ in 1990, Harrison Ford in 1992 film ‘Patriot Games’ and 1994's ‘Clear and Present Danger’; while Ben Affleck portrayed a younger version of the character in ‘The Sum of All Fears’ in 2002.
Paramount Pictures are said to be using a script based on an original concept rather than one of Clancy's existing novels.
Pine is also set to reprise his role of Captain James T. Kirk in a Star Trek sequel. He is also presently filming the thriller ‘Unstoppable’ which stars Denzel Washington.
