'Night at the Museum 2' good fun, but seen it before

Director: Shawn Levy

Cast: Ben Stiller, Amy Adams, Owen Wilson

Hollywood just can’t let sleeping dogs lie, the suits simply must squeeze every last drop from an idea. Thus we have the second of what threatens to be an endless series of films in which museum exhibits come to life.

So be it – and the original wasn’t too bad a film, after all – but we can only hope that two such efforts will be sufficient.

Stiller returns as Larry, this time as a caretaker in Washington’s famous Smithonian Institute – known as America’s Attic – where a collection of characters – Custer, Al Capone, Roosevelt and an evil Pharaoh – come to life and get involved in an almighty fight.

Larry, caught in the middle, enlists the help of Amelia Earhart (Adams), as you would. And, as you would, they start to get romantically involved.

It’s good fun, if not compellingly original.
