'Tormented' a poor imitation of horror classic
Director: Jon Wright
Cast: Tuppenece Middleton, Alex Pettyfer, Calvin Dean, April Pearson
Cert: 15
This British horror thinks it’s a reincarnation of the classic revenge chiller 'Carrie' … and it isn’t.
Young Darren (Dean) is bullied at school, and in addition lives a life of lovelessness – his parents are awful – and virtual invisibility. Such handicaps drive him to suicide, as does the fact that his tormentor is the hissable rich kid Bradley (Pettyfer).
So unmissed is Darren that the school parties on even as he is laid to rest … though he doesn’t intend to rest for long. He rises from the dead intent on getting his own back and embarks, Carrie-style, on a rampage of revenge.
None of which is in any way original, not even frightening, nor witty.
Such films are two-a-penny and thus need to bring us something we haven’t seen before. It’s no good merely stealing ideas from previous – and much better – films.
