'Angels and Demons' a decent film, no more
Director: Ron Howard
Cast: Tom Hanks, Ewan McGregor, Ayelet Zuer, Stellan Skarsgard
It’s all happening – again – at the Vatican what with murdered scientists, kidnapped potential Popes, a threatened terrorist attack, a deadly new world-destroying weapon, the return of a long-supposed defunct sinister organisation and every other kind of menace you want to throw in.
Only our hero Robert Langdon (Hanks, back from decoding Leonardo’s puzzles in 'The Da Vinci Code', which was actually author Dan Brown’s follow-up to 'Angels and Demons') and the scientist’s daughter Vittoria (Zuel) to save us.
It’s another complex story with lots of twists and races against time and mysterious symbols – Langdon is a symbolist who decodes such messages – and it’s carried out at a fast pace.
That mysterious organisation is The Illumanti, and boy do they know how to cause trouble.
The Vatican is said to be horrified at the film but that’s just what it is: a film. A reasonable good one but not one to get so excited about, even if it takes itself very, very seriously.
Star Rating: 3/5
