Madonna has to wait for adoption ruling

Madonna will have to wait until Friday for a Malawi judge to rule on her application to adopt a four-year-old girl as her second child from the country, legal officials said today.

The pop diva appeared in court there today but the application was adjourned until the end of the week.

Madonna left the court after about an hour. It was not known whether any of the girl’s relatives were present.

The one adoption case on today’s court papers listed only the child’s name - Chifundo James. The girl’s name means mercy in the local language.

Madonna has not commented on the adoption and did not speak to reporters today.
