'Twilight' one for the teens

Director: Catherine Hardwicke

Cast: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner

The one, apparently, every teenage girl has been waiting for and, apparently, the one that will sweep Harry Potter into obscure history.

Er, hardly.

It’s a good film with a teenage heart-throb leading man in Pattinson as the almost perfect love interest for Bella Swan (Stewart), a young girl who longs for romance on the grand scale.

But the man she finds, handsome, intelligent, sweet Edward Cullen, happens to be a vampire … not one of the customary teeth-in-the-throat, pass-the-vintage-blood and close-the-curtains kind, but a vampire’s a vampire when all’s said and done.

We have here a neat Romeo and Juliet story that will certainly give lots of teenage females the vapours and the film, aimed squarely at this particular market, does stick closely to the book by Stephenie Meyer - but unless you fit into the target audience most of it will offer little interest.
