'Lemon Tree' thoroughly compelling
Director: Eran Riklis
Cast: Ali Suliman, Doron Tavory, Hiam Abbass
Based on a true story and set in the turbulent world of the Palestine-Israel conflict the film tells the story of the Palestinian widow (Abbass) whose precious lemon trees come under threat – for security reasons – when the Defence Minister of Israel (Tavory) moves next door.
She begins a long legal battle to save her trees with the help of a young lawyer, with whom she develops a romantic connection.
It’s an interesting film that is both a legal and romantic drama – with heavy political overtones – and it is never short of being thoroughly compelling.
