Nixon: SATC sequel 'not confirmed'

Cynthia Nixon has downplayed the frenzy surrounding plans for a 'Sex and the City: The Movie' sequel, insisting the cast has yet to sign contracts for the project.

Nixon's co-star Samantha Cattrall sparked fan commotion after announcing in November that filming on a follow-up to the big screen adaptation of the long-running US TV show could begin as early as next summer - after the first movie became a huge box office smash in 2008.

And despite the film's star Sarah Jessica Parker also confirming plans, Nixon is adamant fans have a long wait in store before seeing the next instalment in theatres.

She said: "We don’t know if it’s coming up. We’re in negotiation. I’m very hopeful, but certainly nothing is for sure. I don’t think anyone’s deals are done.

"We were very excited to get to do the first one, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we get to do another one."

And the star, who plays lawyer Miranda Hobbes in the hit franchise, has just one request for the future of her character: "I’d like her to have fun. She had such a hard time last time."
