Director: Oliver Stone
Cast: Josh Brolin, Richard Dreyfuss, Elizabeth Banks, James Cromwell
The first semi-biographical film about a sitting US President brings to the screen the story of George W Bush.
Surprisingly, Stone – aided by a brilliant portrayal by Brolin – manages to make Bush seem human - sympathetic even.
Here, Stone argues that Bush wasn’t at heart an evil man, just one who never really bright enough to have grasped what was happening in the world around him, a failure who could never live up to the expectations of his father, the ‘other’ President Bush (Cromwell).
We now know who will replace Bush in Washington but in the meantime we have this clever and insightful take on the Bush Years to keep us amused.
We thought Bush was a joke, here we discover, to our embarrassment, that the joke was always on us.
