Peaches knows marriage may not last forever

Newlywed Peaches Geldof has said she did not enter into her marriage believing it would necessarily last forever.

The 19-year-old tied the knot in a shock wedding with Chester French guitarist Max Drummey, 24, in Las Vegas in August.

Geldof told 'Heat' magazine that she loves her husband, but also highlighted the high number of marriages that fail.

She said: “You can’t ignore divorce rates. Every friend of mine has parents who are now divorced.

“I didn’t go into it with Max thinking: ’This is going to last forever,’ but I did go into it thinking: ’I love him right now and I know that I will continue to love him for a long while.”’

Geldof’s own parents married in Las Vegas in 1986, but later separated.

She told how love blossomed once she got to know Harvard graduate Drummey and she was impressed by his intelligence.

“I’ve never been swayed by looks,” she revealed. “I mean, you’ve seen some of the people I’ve dated in the past! I’m not the type of girl who will chase after a Brad Pitt lookalike. I like intelligence.”

She said Drummey invited her to hang out with him in America, saying: “He has this magnetism – I suppose I fell under his spell.”

Geldof also said it was Drummey who suggested the couple take the relationship a step further and tie the knot.

She said it was a “little bit nuts” but she had fallen in love.

Speaking about her father Bob’s reaction to the news, Geldof said: “I rang him and he said: ’Do you feel that it’s right?’ I said: ’Yeah, I do’.

“He said: ’Well, I think it’s a really intense thing to do and, in my opinion, as your father, I think it’s a bit silly because you’re very young.

“’But, at the same time, I’m happy for you, and if you love him, that’s a really good thing.”’

Geldof said she would cook for her husband but added: “I’m not going to be donning an apron and rubber gloves. I’m very feminist in that way.”
