'Meet Dave' not Murphy's worst, but far from best

Director: Brian Robbins

Cast: Eddie Murphy, Elizabeth Banks

Cert: PG

Once upon a time we could look forward to a Murphy film, even when he turned out to be just as annoying as in the one before – doing his Eddie Murphy School of Acting thing – but that was a long time ago.

Here he’s not at his repulsive worst, but it still isn’t a great comic film.

He plays, wait for it, a human-shaped spaceship as well as the captain of said ship. The alien craft crash-lands in New York and its tiny inhabitants set out to explore the dubious delights of the Big Apple, realising that since they’re small they had better use the spaceship/human as their means of transport.

From then on it’s merely Murphy rolling his eyes, slapping hands and not being terribly funny at all.

A sad, sad waste of what might have been a great talent.
