Cannes trip will promote Irish cinema
The Irish film industry will be in the international shop window at the Cannes Film Festival, which begins on Wednesday.
Up to 200 executives and stars will fly to the south of France promoting and selling new Irish cinema.
Songwriter Declan O’Rourke will perform and films featuring Dylan Moran and Liam Cunningham will be on display.
The Festival, which runs until May 25, is one of the most important film festivals and markets in the world.
Every year an estimated 50% of the world’s film business takes places.
Irish films on display include 'The Daisy Chain' starring Samantha Morton and directed by Aisling Walsh ('Song for a Raggy Boy').
Also featuring will be 'The Escapist' starring Liam Cunningham which was previously selected to screen at the Sundance Film Festival.
'A Film With Me In It' starring comic actor Dylan Moran will also be promoted along with 'Eden' which recently won an award at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
Declan O’Rourke will perform at an opening reception at the Irish Pavilion.
“The Irish Pavilion is the central point for the Irish presence at the festival, promoting Irish film and Ireland as a film location.
“The Pavilion is a joint marketing initiative between the Irish Film Board and The Northern Ireland Film & Television Commission. Culture Ireland also supports events.” said an IFB spokeswoman.
