City that snubbed Madonna makes new offer
A US city that once declined to honour says it wants to give the pop star a second chance.
The Bay City Times reports that Mayor Charles Brunner has written to the star asking her accept a key to the city. The singer grew up in Bay City, Michigan, and the Detroit suburb of Rochester Hills.
The newspaper said Madonna was considered for the honour in 1985, but at the time some thought she was too risque.
The paper reported that in the late 1980s the city also refused to accept a sculpture of Madonna from an Italian artist, citing a belief that her popularity would fade in time.
