The drowned body of French model Katoucha Niane has been discovered in the River Seine, Paris.

Investigators, who have ruled out violence playing a part in her demise, pulled the Gallic beauty out of the water on Thursday, 28 days after she went missing.

Niane, 47 - simply known in the modelling world as Katoucha - vanished after returning from a party to her houseboat near Paris city centre.

Police feared the worst after a bag was discovered sitting outside her closed front door.

Niane made her mark on the fashion world in 1980s, becoming one of the first black models to win fame around the world. She modelled for a series of top designers, including Yves Saint-Laurent and Christian Lacroix.

Investigations into her death - including tests for drugs and alcohol - are continuing.
