Three tenors officially retire following death of Pavarotti

The Three Tenors have officially retired following the death of Luciano Pavarotti last year.

Spanish star Jose Carreras insists nobody could replace the Italian and it would be disrespectful for him and Placido Domingo to consider reforming without Pavarotti, who lost his battled with pancreatic cancer, aged 71, in September.

Speaking from Australia, where he is currently performing, Carreras says: "For Placido and myself to do something would betray the memory of Luciano; I don't think that would be ethical."

Carreras, a cancer survivor, reveals he frequently called Pavarotti at home in the weeks leading up to his death: "It was important to show him that someone who suffered from such a severe disease was able to overcome the situation and win the battle."
