Christie Hennessy dies

The Kerry-born singer-songwriter Christie Hennessy has died this morning following a battle with cancer.

Hennessy achieved initial success writing well-known songs like 'Don't Forget Your Shovel' for Christy Moore and 'All the Lies that You Told Me' for Frances Black.

He made his own breakthrough in 1992 with the triple-platinum selling album 'The Rehearsal' and is probably best known for the hit song 'Messenger Boy'.

A statement on his official website said: "It is with great sadness that we announce that Christie passed away this morning.

"We just want you all to know how much that Christie appreciated your love and support over the years. He will be sadly missed by all."
