Kidman tells judge of 'car chase' terror
Actress Nicole Kidman told a judge today that she was “really, really scared” when she was followed in her car by a photographer.
The snapper, Jamie Fawcett, is suing The Sun-Herald newspaper for defamation over an article that said he was Sydney’s most disliked freelance photographer and that his behaviour towards the Oscar-winning actress was so “intrusive and threatening” that he scared her.
Miss Kidman was called to testify before Sydney’s New South Wales state Supreme Court as it considers whether to award damages against the newspaper’s publisher. A jury has already found that the article defamed Mr Fawcett.
Wearing a grey skirt, white blouse and pale pink cardigan, the actress was mobbed by photographers and reporters when she arrived at the court.
In court Miss Kidman said she became worried about a possible accident when her driver, John Manning, told her that she was being followed by Mr Fawcett and another driver during the alleged pursuit on January 23 2005.
“He said that they were driving crazy and that they had run red lights and jumped the median strip,” Miss Kidman told Justice Carolyn Simpson.
“I was frightened and I was worried there was going to be an accident.”
Asked her state of mind during the chase, Miss Kidman replied: “Really, really scared.”
