'Bobby' too ambitious a project for Estevez
Emilio Estevez’s Bobby (€24.99), despite the presence of a distinguished cast, including his father Martin Sheen, Anthony Hopkins and William H Macy, falls somewhat short of its ambitions.
Estevez’s drama centres on the night Robert Kennedy was assassinated. But the disparate bunch of characters he assembles ultimately prove the film’s undoing.
The blending of archive with filmed footage doesn’t quite come off, and the project, which Estevez has worked on for many years, is definitely less than the sum of its parts.
Extras include a ‘making of’ featurette, and a 29-minute look-back on the fatal night, with interviews.
