A period thriller set in 18th century Paris, Perfume (Fox, €24.99) attempts to assail the senses as Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Ben Whishaw) develops a keen sense of smell and embarks on a murderous pursuit of young women.

A strange dark film directed by Tom Tykwer from Patrick Süskind’s novel, it often stumbles along and occasionally leaves gaps in its adaptation.

However, Tykwer’s lush imagery works well, and the hunt to find the serial killer carries you along.

A fine making of documentary and some lightweight featurettes make up the special features.
