More gigs cancelled as Bennett remains ill

Singing legend Tony Bennett has been forced to delay further concerts as he struggles to overcome a bout of flu.

The 80-year-old star cancelled several of his US tour dates and an appearance on American Idol earlier this month after falling ill with the virus.

Bennett's publicist Sylvia Weiner says that the singer has had to postpone gigs today and Friday's in Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio, respectively.

"(He) was advised by his doctor to restrict plane travel and to rest for the next five days," she said.

"Both concert appearances are in the process of being rescheduled.

"His condition is improving and he is expected to return to his full concert schedule."
