Cruise and Holmes miss out on dream home

Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have failed to land a $20m (€29.5m) apartment in New York City's Dakota building, after it was sold to a mystery buyer.

The pair were rumoured to be interested in the 12-room home in The Dakota block, opposite Central Park.

However, current owner Juliana Curran Terian tells the New York Daily News: "The buyer wasn't an actor or anyone like that."

Former Beatle John Lennon was shot outside the Dakota Building, where he lived with wife Yoko Ono, in December 1980.
