Oscar nominee he might recently have been, storming out when he didn’t get the award, but Murphy has had a career long on the slide. This feeble effort won’t halt the decline.

If it was intended to be funny it failed, if it was intended to be a drama it failed, if it intended to be entertaining it failed.

Murphy plays an orphan whose girlfriend is shipped out to a foster home and he falls under the spell of another. They eventually marry, not happily, and then the old love returns.

At which point the notion of describing what happens next brings on a touch of the vapours since it’s not worth even a casual consideration.
