Hurley and husband arrive for wedding celebration

Model-actress Elizabeth Hurley and her husband Arun Nayar arrived in Mumbai today to kick-off a colourful, traditional Indian-style wedding celebration spread over six days.

Ms Hurley and German-Indian businessman Mr Nayar were married on Friday at Sudeley Castle in the Cotswolds.

The pair held a blessing and party at the castle on Saturday evening, with guests including Elton John, Kate Moss and Hurley's ex, Hugh Grant.

The couple will attend a 'haldi (turmeric)' ceremony where a paste of turmeric, milk and cream is applied to the bride and groom.

They will later meet a select group of friends and relatives for a formal dinner in India's entertainment and financial capital.

The party and ceremony would be hosted by family friend Parmeshwar Godrej, wife of well-known Indian industrialist Adi Godrej, The Times of India newspaper reported.

Photographers and cameramen snapped shots of Hurley and Mr Nayar on arrival at Mumbai's airport from London early today.

The couple will head to desert town Jodhpur in central Rajasthan where wedding celebrations will continue from Wednesday.

Celebrity late arrivals included supermodel Elle Macpherson, along with artist Tracey Emin.

The police presence was stepped up moderately as traffic built up on Castle Street. Officers pulled crowds away as the last vehicles streamed into the castle grounds.

Shops and restaurants in the town displayed good luck signs, put out balloons and messages of goodwill for Liz and Arun...then carried on as normal.

Some businesses were disappointed their services were not called upon for the wedding, but Rachel Jones, a hairdresser at the Cat's Whiskers salon insisted the town had been "overwhelmed with excitement".

Peter Austen, landlord of the Wine and Sausage bar and restaurant said his eight-bed hotel was fully booked with Ms Hurley's guests. His contribution to the occasion was the addition of a special dish of curried sausages to his menu.
