Keaton is compelling in Because I Said So
Because I Said So
Michael Lehmann
Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore, Gabriel Machti, Tom Everett Scott
We have seen this film in many former guises, and many of them have featured Keaton in what has become a stock role: that of the single mother.
Here she plays the mother of three daughters but who is looking for love and romance herself, having placed an ad in the personal columns. The girls decide to assist in the increasingly hapless search.
It’s the sort of seen-it-all-before, run-of-the-mill romcom that is good merely in patches. What doesn’t help is that the humour is pitched at a pretty low level, though Keaton remains the sort of compelling actress that keeps you sorta glued.
It’s the sort of movie your boyfriend might even manage to survive.
