British stars hone haggling skills for Comic Relief

Five famous duos showed off their bargaining skills today at a special car boot sale in aid of Comic Relief in the UK.

Ten celebrities led by Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders split into teams of two to sell off their old clutter and compete for the Car Booty crown.

As well as the comedy pairing of French and Saunders, green-fingered stars Charlie Dimmock and Alan Titchmarsh, property gurus Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer, TV’s queens of clean Kim and Aggie and singer Jason Donovan and TV presenter Mariella Frostrup all joined forces to raise some cash for the charity.

Amongst the offerings on sale today were signed books, clothes, perfume and cosmetics, handbags, hats and signed pictures.

The event, in Battersea, south London, marks the launch of a Comic Relief campaign urging the public to hold their own car boot sale and raise some money for charity.

A Comic Relief spokesman said: “We hope that today’s event will inspire the public to start fundraising for Red Nose Day on March 16.”

Comic Relief Does Car Booty! will be shown on BBC 1 on March 4.
