Creature comforts voted UK's favourite ad animals

The Creature Comforts have topped a list of favourite animated and puppet characters used in UK adverts.

Nick Park’s creations, which advertised the Electricity Board, were spawned from his Oscar-winning Creature Comforts short film

The cast of trademark Plasticine animals included turtles, jaguars, pandas and a parrot whose central heating made it possible for him to live in Britain.

Churchill Insurance’s nodding dog, made famous with the voice of Vic Reeves before he was axed from the multi-million pound promotional campaign when he was found guilty of a drink-driving offence, came second in the list.

The chortling Martians from the 32-year-old advert for Smash instant potato is third.

The woolly monkey which partnered funnyman Johnny Vegas in the promotion for ITV Digital is next, followed by trombone-playing Douglas who was axed after starring in the Lurpak butter ads for 20 years.

One time Levi’s creation Flat Eric, the yellow puppet, built by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, that earned cult status and even appeared on The Big Breakfast, is sixth.

The Peperami Animal, launched in 1993 and voiced by Young Ones star Adrian Edmondson is next, followed by the Vauxhall Corsa C’mons, the Crazy Frog from the ringtone adverts and the Pillsbury Doughboy.

A total of 2,400 adults were interviewed by YouGov for the survey.
