Newton-John to sue over Grease royalties
Olivia Newton-John is suing record label Universal Music Group claiming she is owed more than $1m (€747,000) in royalties from the Grease soundtrack album.
The British-born actress, who played Sandy opposite John Travolta’s Danny in the hit 1978 movie, filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court last week.
Her lawyer, John Mason, said it alleges that while Universal did pay some royalties on the album, it failed to make a range of other contractual payments.
According to the suit, a recent audit showed Universal owes more than a million dollars to Newton-John’s company, ON-J Productions.
“The lawsuit is without merit and, at the appropriate time, we expect that the court will dismiss it,” Universal said in a statement.
