A tale of terror from the deep – a chemical-ruined river – from the masters of such white-knuckle films: the Japanese and Koreans.
It’s a conventional enough story – the ‘thing’ emerges, kidnaps a child, the family decide to confront matters themselves – but it’s done with style and a strong sense of the realistic. Bong also throws in excellent moments of wit to offset the horror and, most importantly, characters we can cheer for.
