Pop star George Michael made his stage comeback in Barcelona on Saturday with an attack on US President George Bush.

In his first solo concert in 15 years the singer didn't shy away from controversy, releasing an enormous balloon depicting a cartoon Bush during a rendition of 2002 hit Shoot the Dog.

He drew more cheers from the 18,000-strong audience at the Palau Sant Jordi arena when he unzipped the inflated trousers to reveal a British bulldog draped with the UK flag.

The dog was stuck to the balloon's crotch, wagging its tail.

Saturday's performance kicked off the former Wham! Star's 25 Live European tour, which will visit 28 cities before December.

Michael declared: "I've been waiting for this moment", after telling the crowd: "You're beautiful... thanks for coming."
