Burrell: Diana 'not engaged'

Diana, Princess of Wales was not engaged to boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed when the pair were tragically killed in a Paris car crash in 1997, her former butler insists in a new book.

Paul Burrell has passed excerpts of his candid memoir over to British police in an attempt to stop speculation Diana was murdered because she was set to marry a Muslim.

The princess' former confidant claims the ring found on her hand was a present from Al Fayed but there was never any talk of marriage.

Burrell writes; "She made it clear this was not an engagement ring and that she agreed to wear it on her right hand as a friendship ring."

The revelations are made in Burrell's new book, 'Diana: The way we were'.
