Tideland rewards attention with originality
Tideland
Terry Gilliam
Jeff Bridges, Sally Crooks, Alden Adair, Janet McTeer
Few directors make the sort of quirky, off-centre films that former Python animator Gilliam makes. The problem often is that his films are so unusual that not many people get them, or appreciate them.
This one is no different as it tells the story of a girl, taken to a rural farmhouse by her father, who attempts to come to terms with her turbulent life. Gilliam packs his film with some wonderfully original characters.
It’s the sort of film that requires your undivided attention but if you contribute that to it you will discover the sort of film hardly anyone else would have the courage to make.
