Pierrepoint explores hangman's dillemma
He was a grocery deliveryman who in his spare time was a hangman.
Pierrepoint (Lions Gate, âŹ21.99), tells the story of British hangman Albert Pierrepointâs (a fine performance by Timothy Spall) whose little secret â he doesnât tell his wife, Anne â takes some getting used to.
Carrying out over 600 executions, from Nazi war criminals to infamous murderers, Pierrepointâs attempts to hide his second job fail thanks to increasing public interest and a growing campaign against capital punishment, but his moral dilemma is brilliantly captured.
