Jarvis Cocker becomes just Jarvis

Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker is dropping his last name for his forthcoming solo release - so he can be held in the same esteem as Madonna, J.Lo and Prince.

The singer thinks he's famous enough to be known by just one name.

He say: "I'm going to be called Jarvis. I've decided to drop the Cocker and try to enter the realm of people who are known by one name. The point of doing a solo record is that it's supposed to be a bit more personal, so you may as well call me by my first name now.

"My J.Lo years. That's it exactly. She has always been an influence."
