Them as dies, and all that; welcome back the wonderful - mincing, lisping, rollicking - pirate king Jack Sparrow, in the shape of Depp.

The films, based on the Disney theme-park ride, are full of action and lots of fun, much swashbuckling, plenty of snappy one-liners and enough romance and glamour to make for a fully-rounded evening's entertainment.

Director Verbinski keeps the action moving at a swift pace and even if the plot doesn't quite flow as freely it hardly matters, it's not really what we're sitting there for: it's for Depp and his co-stars in all their glory.
