Story of Beslan tragedy to hit big screen
Hollywood producer Brian Glazer is bringing the tale of the Beslan school massacre to the big screen.
‘The School’ will tell the story of the siege of the Russian school by heavily armed Chechen rebels in 2004.
The film is based on an article by CJ Chivers that appeared in an issue of Esquire magazine.
Chivers, the Moscow correspondent for the New York Times, covered the siege as it unfolded over three days.
Around 300 of the 1,100 hostages, as well as 31 terrorists, died during the ordeal.
The journalist returned to Beslan 18 months after the massacre to interview the survivors, whose recollections are reflected in the film.
Grazer said the Esquire article "captures for the first time the human aspect of a horrendous event" and that the story "cried out to be told on the big screen".
