The proposition of the title is that one Oz outlaw brother should kill the other for the rape and murder of a colonial family; or else dangle at the end of a rope.

It's a stunningly photographed film, capturing the lonely beauty of the Outback. It is, too, a powerfully-realised drama - the proposition leads to unexpected conclusions - which Hillcoat presents with a minimum of preaching.

A fine cast keeps everything on track; a little gem!
