Glitter 'child rape charge' dropped
Disgraced British rocker Gary Glitter will not face child rape charges, a Vietnamese police investigation has concluded.
The singer, real name Paul Francis Gadd, has been held at Phuoc Co prison in Vung Tau, Vietnam, since he was charged with child molestation last month.
Investigating officers have identified six alleged victims of Gadd, the youngest being an 11-year-old girl.
The singer's lawyer Le Thanh Kinh says: "It's likely that the findings of the investigation will be handed over to him this week.
"The (child rape) investigation has ended and the charge will still be the initial one, while additional issues were not raised by investigators, probably because of a lack of evidence."
Earlier this month police said they were looking into a possible further charge of child rape - an offence punishable by death - but confirmed this week the charge will not be filed.
The case will now be passed onto a provincial prosecutor, who will decide whether to place Gadd on trial.
