How innocent it all seems now, those statuesque nudes who stood perfectly still – by law – on the stage of the famous Windmill Theatre in London.

This charming period piece tells how the formidable Mrs Henderson (beautiful performance from Dench) turned the theatre into a joy to behold during the dark days of WW2 … and it never closed.

It’s a solid and low-key British film that is full of excellence and quality performances, none better than that of Dench.
