Lynam a hit as Countdown goes back on air

Des Lynam has proved a hit with Countdown viewers.

A British audience of 1.8 million saw him take over the reigns of the long-running quiz show yesterday.

The figures were the highest since last year's Christmas special.

The show had been off the air since the death of host Richard Whiteley in the summer.
